Before you get behind a wheel, whether you’re alone or with a passenger, safely driving should always be your top priority. You may be an experienced driver or just got your learner’s permit, we are all subjects to occasionally make mistakes while driving.

Here are a few things you should make sure to check before you head out to drive.

  • Perform safety checks to your vehicle. This is something that should be done before you start driving. Start by making sure that your front and rear headlamps are working and your tires are properly inflated. Make sure to look under your vehicle and verify that nothing is leaking or hanging. Also, check your headlights and turn signals.
  • Keep your attention to the road at all times. Multi-tasking is not possible while driving.
  • Have your license and registration ready to produce in the event you get stopped by law enforcement. Not carrying your license and registration with you may lead to a suspension unless proof of license and registration is provided; and after you would have to pay a reinstatement fee, which can be up to $150.00.
  • Always drive in a defense mode. Be aware of what other drivers around you are doing. The safest way to drive is to assume the worst might happen and be prepared if the worst does occur.
  • Maintain a safe distance between you and the vehicle in front of you. The space between you and the vehicle in front of you should be of at least 2 seconds. Following another vehicle too closely is known as tailgating and if you’re tailgating, you may not be able to safely stop in time to avoid a crash.

Please beware that under extreme weather conditions you have to be ten times more careful to make sure you and your passenger are safe.

If you ever get involved in an accident, you must get an attorney. Please contact us, our consultations are free of cost!
